After two years in the making, Akhil Akkineni’s spy thriller, which also stars Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a key role, struggled to make an impact at the box office upon its theatrical release. Adding to its woes, legal issues delayed its streaming debut. However, the wait is finally over. Sony LIV has officially announced that the film is set to premiere on its platform soon.
Agent Movie OTT Release Date:
Surender Reddy’s Agent is finally set to premiere on Sony LIV on March 14, 2025. However, this isn’t the first official announcement for the film’s OTT release, as previous dates were repeatedly postponed. According to reports, the delays stemmed from legal issues, including a stay order obtained by a distributor who suffered significant losses after purchasing the theatrical rights. Additionally, there were claims of financial disputes between the filmmakers and the streaming platform.
Made with a hefty budget of approximately ₹80 crore, Agent struggled at the box office, failing to even cross the ₹10 crore mark in theatrical revenue. Producer Anil Sunkara reportedly lost nearly ₹50 crore on the project and openly attributed the film’s failure to director Surender Reddy’s decision to proceed without a finalized script.
Since May 2023, Agent has seen multiple OTT release announcements, the most recent being in September. However, after that, both the platform and the makers went silent on the matter. Hopefully, this time, there won’t be any further delays. The film stars Akhil Akkineni as an ethical hacker with aspirations of becoming a RAW agent. After numerous failed attempts, he finally gets his chance when tasked with stopping a mission led by a rogue agent.
Agent features an ensemble cast including Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, Vikramjeet Virk, Denzil Smith, Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, among others. Additionally, Urvashi Rautela from Daaku Maharaj made a special appearance in a dance number.
